The best social platform for a Reno business is the one your customers already open, not the one a trend report crowned this year. For most local companies in Reno and Sparks, that is Facebook and Instagram first, Google Business Profile as a non-negotiable companion, and TikTok only when you can film the work every week.
This page is the platform decision. It is not a posting-ideas list and it is not an influencer guide. If you want partners in town who already have an audience, use our Reno influencer marketing guide after you know which platform you are showing up on.
Match the platform to the business
- Restaurants, bars, and shops in Midtown or downtown. Instagram for the look of the place, Facebook for events and the older regulars, Google for hours and the menu people check before they drive.
- Contractors, landscapers, and home services. Facebook and Instagram, with the phone number in the profile and in the first line of posts about finished jobs. Nextdoor and Google reviews often beat a new TikTok account.
- Dentists, med spas, and professional services. Instagram for the work you are allowed to show, Facebook for education, and a website that does the explaining. Be careful with patient stories. Our Nevada HIPAA website notes apply to ads and forms, not only to pages.
- Tourism, museums, and events. Facebook still carries local reach in northern Nevada. Short video helps, and so does posting when something is actually happening, not on a rigid calendar that ignores the event.
What “being on it” means
A profile with a logo and no posts from the last month is a closed sign. Pick one primary platform and post three times a week for 90 days before you add a second. Each post needs a real photo or a short clip from your business, a sentence about what the viewer should do, and a way to contact you that matches the website.
Reply to comments and messages on the day they arrive. A lot of local leads are a message that says “are you free Thursday,” not a like. If nobody on the team can answer, social media management is the service that covers posting and the replies, not just the grid.
Organic posts and ads are different jobs
Organic posts keep you familiar. Ads put a specific offer in front of people who do not follow you yet. Do not judge a Facebook page by ad results, and do not judge ads by likes. When you are ready to pay for reach, the setup we use is covered in Meta Ads in 2026. The profile still has to look alive, because people tap through before they call.
A 30-day start for a busy owner
- Claim and finish Facebook, Instagram, and Google Business Profile with the same name, phone, and website.
- Finish the Google listing with the same phone number and hours that are on your website, and set the service area to Reno and Sparks if you travel to the customer.
- Post twelve times in a month on one platform. Eight of those should be jobs, food, or the team. Four can be an offer.
- Answer every message. Note which posts made the phone ring. Do more of that, and ignore the format that only got likes from other businesses.
- Add a second platform only after the first one has a month of proof.
The businesses that look “everywhere” usually filmed one afternoon and cut it into pieces. If you need that footage, video and social can be planned together so you are not posting stock photos of a city you do not work in.
Tell us what you sell and which platform you have already tried. We will tell you whether to stay there or move.
After you pick the platform, the work is the rhythm: a weekly posting rhythm, what to post when there is no photoshoot, how to reply to comments and messages, how to turn one job into three posts, who should own posting, first-month setup, and how to write a caption a local customer understands.
