The Boost button spends a local budget on Meta’s default audience, which is often wider than Reno and Sparks and optimized for cheap engagement. A campaign with a location, a lead goal, and an ad you can turn off is the same money spent on purpose.
What Boost decides for you
Boost picks an objective that is usually engagement or a loose visit, not a call or a form. It may include people well outside the area you serve. It gives you one post and very little control over who sees the next dollar. That is fine for a birthday post. It is a poor way to buy jobs.
What to do with the same budget
- Choose leads, calls, or messages as the goal.
- Limit the map to the cities you serve.
- Use a post that names the service and the next step.
- Check the leads after a few days and stop the ad if they are the wrong place or the wrong job.
You can still start from a post that already did well on the page. Put it in Ads Manager, or have whoever runs the account do it, instead of tapping Boost on the phone.
When a small boost is harmless
Boosting a hiring post or a community thank-you inside a tight area is a small spend with a small goal. Do not judge the company’s advertising by that. Judge the campaigns that are supposed to produce jobs, using the report shape in whether the ads are worth it.
Put the same dollars in an ad set you can see
Boost hides the choices that matter for a local company: the map, the placement, and whether you are asking for a lead or a like. Take the amount you would have boosted and put it in one ad set aimed at the cities you serve, with one ad that states the offer. You will see which towns the spend reached and whether anyone left a number.
A small boost is harmless when you are only showing a finished job to people who already follow you. It is a poor way to find new customers in Reno and Sparks, because the default goal is often engagement, and engagement is not a booking. If the goal is a call, the campaign should say so.
The audience to use instead is in how to set a Meta audience for Reno and Sparks.
Sierra builds the deliberate version under Meta ads. Send the post you were about to boost and we will say whether it should be a lead campaign or left organic.
